The Bioengineering
and Educational Experiences (BReEd) at the University of Puerto Rico
– Mayaguez project seeks to study the feasibility of establishing a
new program track in Bioengineering at the College of Engineering (CoE)
from the University of Puerto Rico – Mayagüez (UPRM). Specific
objectives of this planning grant of the BReEd program are:
- To prepare
students for job opportunities in the biotechnology, pharmaceutical,
medical devices and computer information industry
- To prepare
engineering and biotechnology students and for graduate education
programs in Bioengineering or related fields (e.g., medical school,
biology, clinical sciences.)
The BReEd project is
currently funded by a grant from the National Science Foundation.
The main objective of
this website is to present the current research and educational
activities in bioengineering at UPRM, as well as future plans of
development for the field in Puerto Rico.
Outcomes:a) Retreat to identify course to be
designed by departments in order to implement a bioengineering track
in each department.
b) Identification of knowledge and skills to be part of an
undergraduate certification or degree in bioengineering. Student
profile.
c) Advantages and disadvantages between implementing a certificate
and a BS program were discussed during the advisory board meeting.
d) Design of a freshmen summer training experience in
bioengineering.
e) Submittal of proposal to establish a bioengineering program at
UPRM. |
